When it comes to your hearing aid, there are many options out there. They all have the ability to significantly improve the quality of life you have and your communication abilities too. That being said, it’s important to know that there is a small adjustment period with hearing aids, and at first, it may be hard for you to get used to your hearing aid. If you want to make sure that you adjust properly, check out these tips.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your hearing aid fits properly. If your hearing aid does not fit properly then this can stop you from making the most out of your device. Ensure that you have all the features you need turned on, and make sure that your hearing aid is cleaned on a regular basis.

This will stop bacteria from building up and it will also stop any debris too. Speak with your audiologist if you are concerned about the general fit of your hearing aid.

SIDE EFFECTS

If you do not use your hearing aid properly or if you use the wrong kind of hearing aid, then there can be side effects. Some of them include:

  • Tinnitus
  • Headaches
  • Soreness
  • Irritation
  • Itching
  • Poor hearing ability
  • Excessive feedback

Luckily, it is more than possible for you to solve all these issues if you simply speak with your audiologist.

HEADACHES

If you are wearing your hearing aid but you do not have the volume set at the right level, then you may find that you experience headaches and ringing. Hearing aids can take some getting used to, but this all comes down to your brain having to relearn how to filter those types of noises out again. This won’t last long.

SKIN IRRITATION

Sometimes a hearing aid that doesn’t fit well can be somewhat awkward to wear. Your hearing aid has to fit you securely. It also needs to be comfortable. If it isn’t then you may find that you experience skin irritation.

If your hearing aid is too loose then the same thing can happen too. You can avoid this by visiting your audiologist. They will make sure that your hearing aid fits well so you can avoid issues like this entirely.

ITCHING

The worst thing that you can do is take out your hearing aid and then itch your inner ear canal. If you do this then you may find that you experience damage. Instead of itching your ear, simply clean your ears by using a moist cloth. This will keep your canal moisturized and it will also help your hearing aid to sit comfortably in your ear.

SOUND PROBLEMS

If you have the volume of your hearing aid set too low or too high, then you may need to sort this out. There are times when you will need to pay a visit to your hearing aid specialist as they will be able to adjust the volume for you. It’s also helpful to make sure that nothing is blocking the receiver.

MANAGING THE SIDE EFFECTS

When you work with an audiologist, you will be able to understand how the device you have should fit and how it works. You will also find out how you can maintain it as well. It’s possible for you to fine-tune and make adjustments with your audiologist. Similar to glasses, you will get very used to them over time and this will make it very easy for you to make the most out of your experience.

Your audiologist will be able to show you how to clean your hearing aids, how to look after them and also how to find out if yours are fitting properly. They will also help you to change your batteries.

If you need to get some help with your hearing aids or if you want to make sure that you are making the most out of your new device. When you do, you will soon find that you are able to wear your device comfortably and that you also have the help of an audiologist. You can contact House of Hearing at (844) 664-3210 if you want to find out more or if you want to try and see if it’s possible for you to find a hearing aid that is right for you.
